HORIZONS

Built in the Fall 2018 Horizons has been an exploration into an inquisition of perspective. The completed sculpture is 3 6ft diameter cylinders placed approx 10ft apart. From a functional standpoint they create 3 hangout pods conducive for conversations, reading, meditation, or otherwise in a unique environment. With the intention of creating a “Coral Reef” for human interaction, and connection.
Visually, they open a narrative into perspective. The title “Horizons” refers to what lies beyond the barrels, therefore incorporating location into the sculpture. At night, they are illuminated with 3 slow fading LED lights. This slow augmentation of color creates a new unique visual experience of its own. Now taking on the qualities of light play not unlike Turrell, or PKSIII. As always I see the similarities, and hold reverence for all the greats that have come before. There is much connection in this sculpture to Nancy Holts 1976 “Sun Tunnels”. Though an unintentional connection, there is no denying my either sub conscious, or otherwise, reinterpretation of her cement tubes in Northern Utah. which I learned about when I was in my adolescence living in Park City Utah.
